Colorado Buffaloes

Black-and-gold game days on the Flatirons, from Folsom Field to The Hill.

Boulder is one of the most beautiful college game-day settings anywhere, and Colorado Buffaloes fans know it. Black and gold, the Flatirons in the backdrop and a walkable campus: here is ColoFandom's fan guide to Buffs game day.

The Home Building

Folsom Field sits on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder, at the base of the foothills, with the CU Events Center nearby for basketball and other indoor sports. The area is very walkable, and many fans park farther out and walk in or use shuttles and transit. Parking in and around campus is limited and rules change, so check official sources before you go.

Boulder sits above 5,000 feet, so plan for sun, dry air and sudden weather. Hours, entry rules, offers and capacity change from game to game, so always confirm details with the venue and the team before you head out.

Game-Day Rituals & Traditions

Ralphie the Buffalo is the star of the Buffs' pregame tradition, running onto the field with her handlers in front of a roaring crowd. Fans wear black and gold, students pack the stands and alumni return for a favorite autumn weekend.

  • A walk across campus to the stadium.
  • Pregame gatherings on the lawns and in the lots.
  • Singing and cheering with students and alumni.
  • Post-game wandering on The Hill and Pearl Street.

It is one of the most photogenic college traditions in the country, and it is a great day for families too.

Where Fans Gather

The Hill is the classic college neighborhood just off campus, with bars, pizza spots and a lively atmosphere. The Sink, one of the best-known college bars there, is a landmark for Buffs fans and alumni. Pearl Street, a walkable pedestrian mall downtown, is the place for brunch and street performers before a game.

Boulder's trail network makes a pre-game walk or hike easy, and the Flatirons are visible from many points. Bars and restaurants set their own hours and offers, so confirm them directly.

Boulder Smarts

Walking is the best way to get around. Drink water, pace the first round and use rideshare or a designated driver after the game. Campus and city rules about alcohol, noise and open containers are strict, so follow them and respect the neighbors.

A few practical habits help on a big Boulder weekend. Check the athletics site for kickoff, gate and parking details, because they shift from game to game. Arrive earlier than you think you need to, since campus streets fill and walking routes get crowded. Keep layers handy: Flatirons weather can turn from warm sun to a cold breeze within an hour. If you are visiting from out of town, a night in Boulder or a nearby town beats a rushed drive home.
