Tom Holland has already made a name for himself as one of the most beloved actors of contemporary times. Tom Holland has been in the film industry for a long, long time. Debuting as a child actor, Holland’s most celebrated role remains his portrayal of Peter Parker/ Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though he has appeared in several roles, movies, series, and more, Holland has struggled to find much success outside the MCU, even though his acting prowess has mostly garnered critical praise.
Yet, the actor is as ambitious as any other young star and once revealed in an interview (with Interview Magazine) with his Marvel co-star and partner Zendaya that he wants to win an Oscar in the next ’15 years.’
The 20-year goal is to be a film director. The 15-year goal is to win an Oscar. The five-year goal is to just keep enjoying myself. I really am having the time of my life. But as far as my future goes, I want to stretch myself as an actor in a way that Jake Gyllenhaal, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Meryl Streep do.
He stated so back in 2017. According to his goal, the actor has till 2032 to win an Academy Award. Also expressing that he doesn’t want to remain stuck with just one character, Holland will really have to stretch himself as an actor and get further away from his comfort zone while taking on more challenging roles if he wants to break free from his ‘superhero’ identity and potentially win an Oscar.

Tom Holland has already proven his acting chops in a range of genres. Be it emotional dramas or action-packed blockbusters like the Spider-Man franchise, Holland is an impeccable actor who can seamlessly switch between varied roles.
But as for his dream of winning an Academy Award, the actor has failed to star in projects or take on roles that can potentially land him an Oscar nod. But his latest collaboration with the celebrated Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan can change that. Along with Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, and more, Holland will be starring in the upcoming adaptation of the Greek epic, The Odyssey (see Vulture).
Nolan, known for his visually stunning and narratively complex films, is famous for challenging his actors and bringing the best out of them. This would not only mark Holland’s first significant collaboration with one of the film industry’s most prolific directors but also give him the perfect opportunity to showcase his range beyond his Marvel persona.
If history is any indication, Nolan-directed performances tend to gain serious awards buzz. Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr.’s Oscar-winning roles in Oppenheimer and Heath Ledger’s posthumous win for The Dark Knight proved that actors in his films are often recognized by the Academy.
Thus, with The Odyssey expected to be another global blockbuster by Nolan, there is a high chance that Tom Holland might end up fulfilling his ambitious goal before 2032.
The Odyssey is expected to hit IMAX on July 17, 2026.
