Liam Payne’s blood alcohol level at the time of his death revealed four months after he fell from hotel balcony

Liam Payne’s blood alcohol level at the time of his death has been released in a new report.

The One Direction star had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of ‘up to 2.7 grams per liter in his blood’ when he fell to his death from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October 2024, at the age of 31.

The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 shared the report on Friday, Feb. 21, shedding further light at the singer’s condition before his passing.

The singer also had ‘cocaine metabolites, methylecgonine, benzoylecgomine, cocaethylene and the medication sertraline’ in his system, according to the release.

A blood alcohol concentration of 2.7 grams per liter (0.27%), can cause serious symptoms including confusion, disorientation, and feeling dazed, according to Alcohol.org.

A blood alcohol content of 0.3% or higher can result in alcohol poisoning, and a level of 0.4% can be fatal.’

Payne’s BAC was more than three times the United States’ legal driving limit, which is .08 percent.

Following his death in October, preliminary results from toxicology tests found traces of cocaine, benzodiazepine, crack cocaine and ‘pink cocaine’ — which is a combination of methamphetamine, ketamine and MDMA — in his system.

In January, his medical cause of death was announced to be ‘polytrauma’, a term which means a person has multiple traumatic injuries to their body.

It comes after a new report claimed that Payne had a drug-fuelled threesome with two prostitutes hours before he fell to his death.

Forensic examination of his final few hours reveals he contacted two women – Aldana Serrano and Lucila Goitea – through a s*x-worker website and invited them to his hotel room.

The women arrived at 11.30am on October 16 to find the tragic former One Direction star inhaling a ‘crystal-like’ drug from aluminium foil.

Payne then asked them to source him more drugs before the trio had s*x, it’s said.

After two-and-a-half hours in the room, he smashed the TV before ordering them to leave without being paid, court documents show.

The account of the One Direction star’s final hours is documented in a 35 page court ruling prepared by judges in Argentina to explain their decision to drop charges against a friend of Payne’s and two hotel workers in relation to his death.

Initially, five people were charged over Payne’s death, after he fell from a third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel.

The hotel’s manager, a receptionist and a friend of Payne were charged with manslaughter, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office previously said in a statement.

However, Argentine authorities later dropped charges against three of them: Payne’s friend, Rogelio Nores, and two employees at the hotel where he died, manager, Gilda Martín, and the chief receptionist, Esteban Grassi.

All three had previously faced charges of negligence.

However, on Tuesday, Argentinian public prosecutors confirmed they are considering appealing the decision to drop manslaughter charges.

They said they were ‘evaluating appeals’ in their first statement since it emerged last week that US businessman Mr. Nores and two hotel workers were in the clear. Appeal court judges reversed an earlier lower court decision at the end of December to charge them – but confirmed two other men accused of selling the former One Direction singer cocaine before his fall from the CasaSur Palermo Hotel should remain in prison and still face prosecution.

The Argentinian public prosecutors have now issued a statement referring to a possible appeal relating the overturned manslaughter charges.

An appeal could also be launched privately by Buenos Aires law firm Marval O’Farrell Mairal, which is reportedly acting on behalf of Payne’s family.

A spokesman for the Argentinian public prosecutors said: ‘The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the plaintiffs will now evaluate the appeals.’

They also revealed more evidence against waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz, who has admitted to taking drugs with Payne but denied he sold him any narcotics, saying in a statement: ‘A police report on the accused’s residence, a block of flats at 400 Aguero Street in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Balvanera, concludes that ‘all the inhabitants/families there earn their livings mainly from selling drugs’.’

Mr. Nores said last week he was ‘delighted’ to be cleared of any involvement in Liam’s death.

He subsequently confirmed he would travel to the UK to ‘say goodbye’ to his friend.

The businessman also vowed to continue his £8.1million defamation lawsuit in the US against the singer’s grieving father Geoff – unless he gets an apology for what he claims were ‘false’ statements made to investigators following Payne’s death on October 16 last year.

Mr. Nores’s Argentinian lawyer Rafael Cuneo Libarona, who is also involved in the separate US defamation case, had centered his fight to get his client off his manslaughter rap on a rebuttal of prosecution claims he was Payne’s representative and had failed in his duty of care towards him.

Nores, who is an American citizen, had been accused of having ‘abandoned him [Liam Payne] to his luck knowing that he was incapable of fending for himself and knowing that he suffered from multiple addictions’, court documents showed.

The prosecutors confirmed the appeal court judges had based their decision to clear Payne’s friend of any criminal wrongdoing on the fact he had not assumed ‘special obligations’ that could link his conduct to Payne’s death.

The two men facing drug charges have been warned they could face between four and 15 years in prison on conviction.

Liam’s death shocked the world and raised questions about how he had fallen from his balcony. His room had been smashed up.

Police launched a wide-ranging investigation into his death.

A 911 call the day the singer died warned that he had been acting aggressively and could have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Grassi, the chief receptionist, claimed Liam called down ‘insistently’ to ask for alcohol, and to ask where he could get cocaine – allegedly insulting a member of staff who said he could not help.

Further to this, text messages purporting to have been exchanged between Liam and an escort in which he offered her $5,000 (£3,900) to ‘party’.

Tests have shown the singer binged on alcohol and cocaine before he died and also had traces of an antidepressant in his system.

Prosecutors also made it clear the idea that Liam had committed suicide had been ruled out and said he was in a state of ‘semi or total unconsciousness’ as he fell to his death from his hotel balcony when he ‘didn’t know what he was doing.’

Liam’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, had stayed with him in Argentina but flew home before he checked into the CasaSur.

Liam previously dated one-time X-Factor judge Cheryl Tweedy, and went on to have son Bear, seven, with her.

The English star rose to fame as a member of the boy band One Direction, alongside his former bandmates Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. He made his debut as a singer on the British television series The X Factor, when he was just 14.
