Revealing the Lost Souls of Pompeii: Unprecedented CT Scans Illuminate the Tragedy of an Ancient City

An explosive new discovery may have revealed the hidden identity of the two maidens of Pompeii, and their relationship could have been scandalous.

If the new theory is correct, it would unravel most of the existing ideas about their connection.

It is now believed that the two victims of Pompeii, known as “The Two Maidens,” might have actually been young homosexual lovers.

So far, it has been confirmed that one of the bodies was male.

Initially, it was thought that the position of the two bodies represented a mother and daughter embracing.

However, this has now been ruled out after analysis revealed that at least one of them was a “young adult male.”

Although the exact age of the man remains unknown, it is believed his possible homosexual lover was between 14 and 19 years old.

Professor Stefano Vanacore, who led a research team that examined the pair in 2017, said: “When this discovery was made, that they weren’t two girls, some researchers suggested there might have been an emotional connection between the pair.

“But we are talking about hypotheses that can never be verified.

“What is certain is that the two individuals were not relatives, nor siblings, nor parent and child.”

Researchers from the Max Planck Institute in Munich, Germany, say the theory cannot be dismissed.

David Reich, one of the authors of the new study, said: “It was found that a pair of individuals thought to be sisters or mother and daughter included at least one male genetically.

“These findings challenge traditional assumptions of gender and family.”

Massimo Osanna, superintendent of the Pompeii archaeological site, previously said: “The fact that they were lovers is a hypothesis that cannot be ruled out.”

This revelation would greatly challenge traditional assumptions of sexuality and family during that time.

THE BLOOD OF THE POMPEII VICTIMS BOILED

A 2022 study revealed that those who tragically perished in the disaster died an even more painful death than originally thought.

A study of residues in the skeletons found that the individuals were not asphyxiated by the ashes but were actually boiled alive until their heads exploded.

In the 1980s and 90s, archaeologists discovered hundreds of skeletal remains of people who had huddled by the water’s edge in Herculaneum, hoping to escape the wrath of the volcano.

Most experts previously agreed that the victims had suffocated from the ash clouds.

However, a more recent study revealed that the overheated gas descending the side of the mountain would have boiled the people instantly.

The remains were covered in black and red residues and contained unusually high amounts of iron.

This indicated that blood had boiled over the bones.

Many of the skulls found showed signs of outward explosion and contained numerous residues.

It is believed that when the victims’ heads exploded, their brains would have instantly turned into ash fragments.
