Jake Paul & Mike Tyson Heavyweight Rankings Revealed
Mike Tyson and Jake Paul have both received their new heavyweight world rankings following their controversial fight on the 15th of November.
The 58-year-old former world champion, taking part in his first professional fight since 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride, was unable to defy his age and succumbed to a comfortable defeat at the hands of the Problem Child.
In the aftermath of the fight, BoxRec released their updated rankings, revealing that Tyson was ranked as the 314th best heavyweight in the world, an astonishing 186 places behind relative newcomer Paul. The social media superstar, meanwhile, has been propelled up to 128th following an emphatic victory where he thoroughly out-boxed his opponent, even revealing that he had decided to go easy on Tyson in the later rounds.
“I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn’t want to hurt somebody that didn’t need to be hurt,” claimed Paul.
Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson a Financial Success
The fight didn’t deliver in the ring, but it certainly did outside of it
Although the fight did not deliver the fireworks that many fans were hoping for, the bout was unquestionably a success for the two stars. Netflix revealed that 60 million households tuned in to watch the fight, which led to the platform crashing multiple times during the broadcast.
The $18m gate for the fight, which was held at AT&T Stadium, home to the Dallas Cowboys, also crushed the record gate for a combat sports event in Texas, which previously stood at $9m for the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders back in 2021.
Although the loss will go down as a disappointing end to the career of one of boxing’s all-time greats, Tyson was in good spirits after the event.
What Has Been Said Post-Fight
Mike Tyson was happy with his performance, while Jake Paul has been called out by champions
“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won,” reflected Tyson. “I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in the ring one last time. I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won. To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you.”
In contrast, Paul’s performance has gained the attention of some of the best boxers in the world, including undisputed light heavyweight world champion Artur Berterbiev, who was quick to call out the social media superstar.
“@jakepaul what can you do in ring against the current undisputed champion?” asked Beterbiev in an Instagram post. “Just know that I’m always open to any suggestions.”
Paul also revealed that he had been challenged by IBF heavyweight world champion Daniel Dubois, who recently produced a stunning performance to knock Anthony Joshua out back in September.
“Hi Jake, good business on the weekend, but how would you feel fighting for the legitimate heavyweight championship of the world,” asked Dubois in a private Instagram message. “This is Daniel Dubois calling you out, now let’s get it on.”
Although, based on the calibre of his previous opponents, it is highly unlikely that this fight would ever take place, Paul quickly took to Twitter to publicly accept Dubois’ challenge, stating: “Man been boxing for 12 years. He has over 100 fights between amateur and pro and fought on my undercard hahaha. But f*** it, I’m going to have Nakisa [Bidarian] talk to Frankie Warren and get you in line for the throne. Unlike Artur [Beterbiev], at least you have a few thousand fans.”
