Diver solves 75-year-old mystery after body trapped in plane “grabs” him in deep water

In a tale straight out of a thriller, a professional diver accidentally discovered the answer to a 75-year-old mystery when a body, trapped inside the wreckage of a sunken plane, “grabbed” him at the bottom of the ocean. The shocking find not only left the diver in shock, but also shed light on a decades-old case.

The event occurred during a dive in a remote lake, known for being home to World War II aircraft wreckage. The diver, identified as Daniel Krause, was exploring the fuselage of a submerged B-17 bomber, when he felt what he described as “a strange, icy touch” on his arm.

“At first I thought it was a current or a piece of debris, but then I saw a human hand holding me tightly. “It was like the past was crying out for help,” Krause recounted in a later interview.

The B-17 bomber, known as the “Flying Fortress,” disappeared during a training mission in 1948. The aircraft was never found, and its crew members were officially declared missing. Authorities at the time were unable to determine what caused the crash, leaving the crew members’ families with more questions than answers.

Krause’s discovery revealed that one of the bodies, perfectly preserved by the cold waters, was trapped inside the fuselage. According to experts, the position of the body suggests that the victim may have tried to escape before becoming trapped.

Following the discovery, local authorities, along with aviation and diving experts, began a recovery operation. The remains were confirmed to belong to one of the missing crew members, identified by military plates still attached to his uniform.

Although the discovery answers the question of what happened to the plane, investigators are now trying to determine what caused the crash. Was it a technical fault, extreme weather conditions or human error?

For the families of the crew, this discovery means the closure of a painful chapter. One of the crew’s descendants, Mary Johnson, said emotionally:
“I never thought we would have answers after so many years. It’s a relief to know that we can finally honor their memory properly.”

The case has captured the attention of historians, aviation enthusiasts and the general public, becoming a reminder of the lasting impact of war conflicts and unsolved mysteries. As efforts continue to recover the plane and its possible additional remains, the world watches in fascination as history is unearthed, piece by piece, from the depths of oblivion.
